Dena, I guess you can call me Mary

Happy father's day to my wonderful husband, dad and father in law. I am so blessed to have such great men in my life. I got Erik a card that said "when we got married I didn't know you'd turn out to be such a great dad, I was just after your body." It's true. Erik is such a wonderful father; he never gets tired of playing or reading stories and rarely raises his voice-even though Kire drives us crazy.

Jack is no longer happy laying down in his swing, bouncer or carseat. In this picture he is trying so hard to sit up. So I just bought a Bumbo so he can sit up and he loves it.

For some reason Kire is dressed up like a jungle warrior, I'm not sure who helped him.
I also cut my hair. I love it, it's fun and easy, but I think I look a little like Adam Lambert.

Lindsey & Max

Yesterday I took the boys with me to Bountiful to meet my friend Lindsey, her boys Max & Channing, and her sister Natalie & her girls. Me and Lindsey met in St. George when we both went to Dixie after high school. We didn't know each other, but shared a room and quickly became best friends and have kept close since. She is one of the few friends of mine that know all about me & my family and I can talk to her about everything. I love her to death and appreciate her so much.
We were laughing yesterday because before we really got to know each other Lindsey was looking at a picture of me and noticed I had fat ankles. So that was one of the ways we first connected because neither of us have beautiful legs.
I was also remembering how we used to go "stalking" boys. On one occasion, in October, we stole dozens of pumpkins from peoples lawns and left them on some guys lawn. And I remember throwing burritos at some windows, Do you remember that Lindsey? Good times.

Macy, Kire & Max playing with the hose

And apparently Erik took this pic today while I was gone. Why can't they ever sleep at the same time when they're with me?

Hair Cut

I've been thinking about cutting my hair short again. I have a round face and this bob I have going on right now just accentuates that. What should I do? Here are a couple of ideas and please vote!

I honestly love Mia Michaels hair #3 but I don't know if I can pull that off.

Last Week

We did a bunch of activities last week. We took Kire to the trout farm for the first time. Kire has never seen anyone fishing but he knew just what to do. He ran to the pond and threw his pole in and caught 3 fish. He could have fished all day I'm sure. We spent $12 on 3 fish and I made fish tacos that night.

Thursday we went to the ogden dino park. We have a membership and go a couple of times a month, but last week we went twice. On Thursday they were giving out movie tickets to the premier of Land of the Lost. We took Kire to it on Friday, he liked it because of the dinosaurs, but it was awful DO NOT SEE IT. There was a lot of swearing & sexual innuendos. If Kire was old enough to understand we would have walked out.
Most days Kire spends in our cul-de-sac driving cars and playing guns.

Playing "cowboys" with his best friend Austin.

On Saturday I took Kire swimming at my dad's after work. I wasn't planning on putting Jack in, but it was so warm I did and he loved it.
Kire & Jack with my sister Amy & Scott

Saturday was our 6 year anniversary. Erik had a football camp all day Saturday so we celebrated by renting a movie (Defiance-it was really good) then going to The Melting Pot Sunday evening. It was nice to get out without the boys. We were planning on going to a movie too but dinner took so long we figured we'd better get the boys. Dinner was really good, but next time we may just go for the dessert.
FYI: Last night we watched Gran Tourino, we've been trying not to watch R but this one was worth it. The story was great, but there was horrible language.

Screw the scale

If anyone has noticed, I haven't updated on my weight loss. This is because there have been no changes. I get extremely frustrated because I'm working out 4-5 x week plus eating better than I have in a year and the scale hasn't moved. So I'm not going to weigh myself. When I see negative results on the scale I say to myself, "well you might as well eat that batch of cookies because it won't matter," and I sabotage myself. So I'm going to keep eating good and exercising and hopefully it'll come off. I think starting Monday I'm going to give up sugar. I've already cut out most processed foods, but I love treats, and I hope that'll give my body a jump start.
I just bought the Biggest loser 30 Day jump start book. I'm not going to do the program completely because I'm afraid I'll lose my milk supply, but there's a lot of great recipes and snack ideas. Jack is almost 3 months and Kire weaned himself at 7 months, so Jack may be similar-he's a big baby too.
I also bought 3 of Jillian Michael's work out DVD's; so far I've only done the 30 day shred and I really like it. It does cardio and strength.

New Moon Trailer

This little gem was released at the MTV movie awards. My husband laughed at me because I seriously gasped when I saw Jacob, he is hot.

Rob & Kristen looked like stoners at the awards; she had on converse's with this awful dress & Rob wasn't much better.

Jack's Blessing

Today Erik blessed Jack in church. After he gave him his name, Jack Corbett, Kire leaned over and said, "No his name is Captain Jack Sparrow." It was a lovely blessing, I have such a wonderful husband. I complain that he doesn't do jack around the house, but he does whatever I ask, and I hate to complain because he makes up for it by being such a wonderful father. We each bore our testimonies, something I haven't done in years, so it was a nice sacrament meeting. Afterwards we had tons of family over for a nice lunch, thanks all who came!

Fountain Park

There is this fabulous little water fountain park in South Ogden behind the Ogden Athletic Club. I wouldn't have known about it, but I used to go to that gym. It is awesome! We spent over 2 hours there today, so if you live near by we should meet up, it's great for kids, especially with this heat.

Jack had a good time in the shade
There are 2 big play areas and a covered Bowery, kire was a bit overwhelmed when we first got there

Also, great deal at Albertsons this week. Buy 1 5 pack of mac n cheese, get one free, plus get 2 Capri sun boxes of 10 free, plus $2 off next purchase. So I got 4 5 packs of Kraft mac n cheese, 4 boxes of Capri Sun's and $2 off my next purchase for $12! I think I'll have to go back this week for more.

OCD

I've mentioned before that Kire has OCD. He is driving me crazy. Yesterday he broke his granola bar while opening it so he wouldn't touch it. He opened another one and wouldn't eat it because "it was bendy." Then today he wanted eggs for breakfast and wouldn't eat them because "they're too ugly." What the what? He makes me laugh most of the time with his craziness, but when he's crying & won't eat he ends up spending half of the day in time out.
And Jack goes crazy in the bath. He kicks and wiggles so much. Last night in the bath Kire cried the whole time because "Jack's kicking me and splashing me." He said, "if Jack splashes me I'll head butt him and splash him." Nice buddy.

Memorial Day

We had a busy day. I took Kire to Discovery Gateway at the Gateway with his cousins then let him run around in the water fountain. Discovery was a fun little museum, but for the money & drive I would rather take Kire to the treehouse. He loved running through the fountain, so I'm glad we went. I got a few things on clearance at Gap, couldn't find anything for me for me, i need some clothes! Of course my camera was dead.
Then we had a BBQ at my dads with the fam.

Kire is still obsessed with guns & swords & Pirates
He still calls Jack "Captain Jack Sparrow"

I got this cute little shirt at Gap"My DAD is RAD"
Erik has lasik on his eyes last week and is doing great. He no longer needs glasses, I'm so jealous, maybe I'll get mine done next summer after we pay for his.
Me with my sweet sister-in-law Lauren (married to my brother Grady) and her, deaf and I'm pretty sure he's half blind, dog Blitz
Kire with aunt "Ju Ju" and her hamster Randy (note to self : never get a rodent)
Jackie with Grandpa Bart
Jack is 2 months now and is just a smiley little guy. His fussiness has faded a bit and he's really pretty mellow. He is sleeping for about 5 hours at night, which isn't great, but is definitly better than waking up every 2, so I'm happy.

whoa Kris

Good for him, I wanted to cry when he hugged his wife.

AI Finale

I have loved this season of American Idol & from the start I've loved Adam. I know he's crazy weird, but he has a fabulous voice & is so entertaining. I'm glad it's between him & Kris, cause they're different and it'll be a close race, but my bets on Adam. I thought they both did great last night, but I did not like the "No Boundaries" song they ended with. Kris is very cute and has a good voice but it drives me crazy to watch him sing with that crazy jaw that jets to the right, anyways. GO ADAM!

"let go"

I got a dental hygiene job last summer that I really enjoyed, and thought that they really liked me. I was hired to work Tuesdays, but usually ended up worked a couple days a week, just as much as they needed me. I went on Maternity leave planning on coming back Tuesdays to begin with and I would kind of go from there. Last Tuesday was supposed to be my first full day back to work ( I started my Saturday half day at another office a few weeks ago), but the week before that my boss called me to see what my plans were. I told him I was planning on coming back on Tuesdays (which the office manager already new, and I assumed he did) and he proceeded to tell me that he needed someone to work more than that. He had a girl he new that was covering my maternity leave that was able to work more and he wanted to keep her. So I'm kind of bugged. I thought I got along really well in the office and really like him as a boss and the staff. I went into the office yesterday for a filling that I had already had scheduled before all of this happened. I asked one of the girls that works there how the other hygienist was working out. She said she didn't really know her, because she works Mon & Wed & the hygienist only works Tuesdays. So, it makes me think that he wanted her instead of me, not because of the work hours, because she doesn't seem to be working more?
My Saturday office is in Layton closer to home & to Erik's work, so it'll probably work out for the best, but I'm still kind of confused because I am pretty awesome ; ). And I wish he had let me know a little earlier because I had another job opportunity a month ago which I could have taken. This job will work out good though. I'm covering someone's maternity leave Wed & Fri's in the summer and then I'll just see from there.

St. George Family Inspired by Tragedy Set to Run Triathlon

One year ago my brother-in-law Brad was killed in a plane accident. At the time of the crash he had been training for a triathlon. This year everyone who was able and wanted to did the St george triathlon in honor of Brad. It was really fun and exciting to see how many people came to support Erik's sister Jenny. We all wore matching blue shirts so we stood out to support those who were racing. On the day of the race it was so windy they canceled the swim, which was in a lake, and the participants had to run, bike, run instead of swim. Everyone finished and did great! This may become a yearly tradition, so hopefully I can participate next time. There was an article in the paper and a few stories on the news, click HERE and then click watch this video.

St. George Family Inspired by Tragedy Set to Run Triathlon

The annual St. George Triathlon is this weekend and a St. George family is competing together to remember one brother, husband, and dad who died last year.
Brad Funk was instrumental in getting his family excited about competing for last years triathlon.
A week before the 2008 race, Funk died during an Airforce training excercise.
This year, 33 family members and friends are committed to running in Funk's memory.
People will be coming in from across Utah, Nevada, Texas, Nebraska, and California to race for Brad.
Brad's wife Jenny believes even though her husband is gone, he will be there in spirit to root everyone to the finish line.

St. George

Happy Mother's Day! I love my boys so much and can't imagine my life without the little butt-heads!

Jack finally enjoys the bath, for the first month of life he screamed everytime he was in the tub
I thinks it's about time to buzz the mullet

Swimming in the pool

and running through the sprinklers

We had a great time in st. george, it was so nice and warm it makes me so excited for summer!

Thanks

Thanks for all the nice comments and support, I really appreciate it. I went to St george this weekend and normally i would have eaten out at iceberg or in-n-out at every opportunity but knowing that i would have to weigh myself and post on my blog helped me to make better choices. i still don't expect to have lost any this week, traveling and all, but hopefully i didn't gain ; )

Confessions

I am a fatty. I gained 45 pounds during both my pregnancy with Kire & Jack. Plus I still had about 10 left to lose before I got pregnant with Jack. It seemed with Kire that it really started to come off on its own while nursing, but with Jack I lost an initial 15 after birth and haven't lost a pound since, 7 weeks later. I thought that by chasing Kire around and nursing, it should come off on its own again, but it hasn't. I must be eating more than I realize, but I am always hungry while nursing. So, I just joined Weight Watchers.
I've also started to do some light exercising, but my boobs "are like watermelons," (that's what Kire says, and they are enormous) and they hurt if I bounce at all; so I'll have to take that slow.
So any advice, comments, motivation, would be welcome : )
I want to lose 40 pounds, which just sounds impossible right now but I will be charting my progress on the blog so I can hold myself accountable and I will be embarrassed to fail.

Mothers day

My friend Amy just made me this sweet necklace, I was going to save it for mother's day but I couldn't wait to wear it. She does the personalization-this necklace would be about $15 I think, a perfect mother's day gift. She has a blog HERE.
I cannot believe how much Jack looks like Kire. Here are a few examples:

Boob warmers

So unlike the picture below, I normally wear breast pads so I don't leak all over. Well this morning when i was putting them in Kire asks, "mom why are you using those, to keep your boobies warm?"

Zac Efron

To be honest, I've never seen High school Musical, but I think Zac Efron is kind of adorable. I saw him on SNL and this sketch is pretty funny. I know it looks totally cheesy, but I want to see 17 Again, anyone with me?

April 15, 2009

1 month

My chubby sweet Jack is 1 month old. He is such a great baby. He rarely cries, except at night because he gets so stuffy he can't breath. He still won't sleep longer than like 2 hours at night, but hopefully that will change soon. Kire still just loves him, it'll be fun when they can play together.

He still has kept his beautiful dark skin color, and his eyes are looking blue. I think he's going to give Kire a run for his money.

30 Rock

"What the what!" Can I just say I love 30 Rock. It is starting to beat out The Office as my favorite comedy. Last weeks episode made me laugh forever; Liz is trying to persuade this guy not to cut her budget so she tries to seduce him. Later she finds out the bribe didn't take, so she's talking to Jack:
Liz-"Brad and I had a deal, I gave him top front."
Jack-"Top front, good lord Lemmon that's your worst quadrant."

Never Judge a mom by the way her kid's dressed

Since Jack's been born I have to pick my battles with Kire, and picking out clothes isn't one of them. Lately he wants to wear what he wants and he will not let me change his mind. And for some reason he likes his shirts on backwards and his shoes on the wrong feet. He also always wants to wear pj's (can you blame him?). This week I was sick of fighting with him and finally allowed him to wear his Christmas footies to Target, along with his mickey mouse crocs on the wrong feet. I used to look at how some kids were dressed and wonder why their moms didn't care and dress them better. Well I will no longer judge. Sometimes kids just want to wear rocket ship pajama bottoms, a spider man t-shirt, a pirate beard, a cowboy hat and 5 bracelets on one arm.

Couponing

6 boxes cereal, 1 gal milk, eggs, 2 packs chicken, 4 cans pinapple, 4 rolls, $5 coupon
I went to an enrichment activity a month ago on couponing.  For the last month I've been getting 5 Sunday newspapers & collecting coupons.  It has been really exciting to see how much I can save.  This week I went to Albertsons and spent $23.  I got all of this and saved $43 plus got a $5 coupon off of my next purchase.  If you are interested in learning, go HERE.

More pics

I got all of Jacks pictures back from Bella-Rose-Photography.  They turned out great.  We didn't get a great one of the whole family cause Kire was being a butt head and I am a cow, but that's ok.
